A new Movement Assistance Scheme has now gone live to help traders meet new requirements for moving animals, plants and associated products from Great Britain to Northern Ireland after the transition period ends.

From 1st January 2021, traders will need to meet new sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) requirements to move animals, plants and associated products to Northern Ireland. These SPS requirements include Export Health Certificates and Phytosanitary certificates for specific agri-food goods.

The scheme removes the need for traders to pay certification costs and will reimburse the costs incurred by those certifying the products up to a set amount.

Government have stated that they “will monitor the performance of the scheme and review it after three months to determine how to best provide ongoing support to traders”.

Movement Assistance Scheme helpline

To assist with the new requirements a Movement Assistance Scheme (MAS) helpline has been set up. Advisers can help with the new requirements including advice on export health certificates, live animals, animal products, plant and plants product types.

Telephone: 0330 0416 580

Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on weekdays (excluding bank holidays)

The helpline will be operating normal hours (as above) :

16 December to 24 December

29 to 31 December

4 January onwards

The helpline will be closed on weekends and on Christmas Day.
