As members will be aware the UK Government started the introduction of import controls for products coming in from the EU on 1st January. We are hearing that initially there were issues with the IT systems between those operated by Defra and those operated by HMRC.

There are also issues that some vehicles are not registered onto the HMRC Goods Vehicle Movement Service, this is EU hauliers and we have been advised that further communications on the need for this will be issued by HMRC in 11 languages. There are also issues that entries are being made that does not show the tractor registration number, with many entries using either a trailer number or some other random number.

Defra have issued this morning guidance on the work arounds for the IT issues and further information on the GVMS issues. Members can access this information by following this link.
