As members are aware, new Import Rules will come into effect from 1st October 2021 on Products Of Animal Origin (POAO) and High Risk Goods that are imported from the EU.
On a Defra call on Tuesday 31 Aug we were advised of two important changes that will be in place from 1st October to 31st December 2021.
- The normal requirement of a 24 hour pre-notification is being reduced to 4 hours. Whilst the 4 hour option was always available you were required to contact the competent authority to have this agreed. For this period, 1st October to 31st December 2021, companies do not have to make any special contact, however, please be aware that, at the moment, this will change on 1st January 2022 when a 24 hour pre-notification will be required.
- Products can also be imported through any Border Control Point (BCP). Again, this will change from 1st January 2022 when BCPs will be classified as only handling certain POAO and High Risk Products.
The BFFF is currently checking the exact status on BCPs from 1st January 2022 and we will provide an update to members in due course.
