A consultation was launched yesterday on the amendment to the Kent traffic regulations, and to seek your urgent input.
The government are proposing an amendment to these regulations to ensure continued flow of food supply to the UK and Gibraltar.
Under specified conditions, the amendment would allow for the prioritisation of outbound vehicles moving from the UK to the EU on an exceptional basis. Firstly, via a new accelerated Return Scheme, in which empty food lorries travelling from the UK to the EU so that they can quickly refill and return to the UK with full loads. Secondly, they are proposing an extension to the existing Prioritised Goods Scheme to incorporate Gibraltar-bound grocery supply freight as a new category of priority good. These schemes would only be activated in the event of significant delays at the border and a reduction in food supply.
Further detail and the questions we are consulting on can be found here.
This consultation closes at 23:59 on 14 January 2021.
