We have been advised that pilots have now been run successfully at food manufacturing sites using a rapid test method for Covid-19 using the lateral flow testing method. This enables mass testing of employees to ensure people are free from the disease, even with outbreaks. The Government have identified 4 kits that are approved for this test and have secured all of the supplies. They will be looking to roll this out in Dec to more food manufacturing sites and are looking to sign up companies.
They will be issuing protocols but still require input on things like where is the best place to do the testing home or workplace, how can companies manage the results, how can we engage employees to take part etc. They are also saying that this will help open more of the economy, it is not just about keeping food manufacturing sites open, it will also help employees in social interaction. In the first four weeks the kits will be free of charge, they are then working on a commercial model which will come into effect after the first 4-week period.
