Following outbreaks of coronavirus (COVID-19) in certain areas of Northern England, the Government announced on 31st July changes to rules on gatherings in Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire and East Lancashire. These changes will also apply in Leicester city.

The areas that these changes specifically apply to are:

Greater Manchester:

  • City of Manchester
  • Trafford
  • Stockport
  • Oldham
  • Bury
  • Wigan
  • Bolton
  • Tameside
  • Rochdale
  • Salford

Lancashire:

  • Blackburn with Darwen
  • Burnley
  • Hyndburn
  • Pendle
  • Rossendale

West Yorkshire:

  • Bradford
  • Calderdale
  • Kirklees

The Government and relevant local authorities are acting together to control the spread of the virus meaning that anyone who lives in an affected area should follow the new rules when meeting people who they do not live with.

Note: People living inside and outside of an affected area can continue to travel in and out for work but workplaces must implement COVID-19 secure guidance.

Further guidance about what you can and cannot do if you live, work or travel in these areas can be found here
