Government are currently working on an off the shelf scheme for local authorities to adopt who do not have a COVID consumer confidence scheme but wish to introduce one, this to encourage consumers back into High Street business such as hospitality and tourism in line with step 4 of the government roadmap (21st June).
The scheme can be used by customer facing businesses that trade in the High Street, Towns and villages and can also be used in event planning.
This will encourage businesses to adopt high standards in their dealings with customers and creates a visible sign to customers that participating businesses are taking measures seriously and therefore builds customer confidence that public health measures are in place.
This scheme is set to form part of the local authority High Street recovery plan and aims to have the latest COVID related information useful for businesses in one place.
The scheme would provide confidence to customers in that the business is making every effort to protect its staff and customers from COVID. In addition:
- Has a visible sign that highlights what the expectations are of customers and reinforces national messaging,
- Has a feedback mechanism for customers who find these expectations are not being met,
- Differentiates those businesses using the scheme from those who are not
- Positive marketing for the businesses to use,
- Businesses using the scheme there will be a display poster which includes the local authorities contact details.
The scheme will be owned by any local authority that adopts it. We will keep you updated as things progress but looks to be a positive sign for our members and wider industry.
