‘Established’ in 1885, today the group operates from seven manufacturing sites, producing and supplying an extensive range in quality cooked meats, including salmon, poultry, pre-sliced and whole joints of cooked meat, convenience foods and a variety of delicatessen items. The entire group boasts a product range which extends well into the thousands. Our product development team are continually striving to produce new and exciting goods. Our philosophy is driven by customer satisfaction; listening to each customer to define and fulfil their needs, whilst continuing to achieve the highest quality across our products, outstanding levels of service and competitive prices.

The Brown family opened a small butcher shop in Biggar in the Scottish Borders in 1885, curing all their own bacon and distributing products by horse and cart throughout Lanarkshire and surrounding areas. Business flourished and two further traditional “factory” units were opened to satisfy regional demand. The Godfrey family bought this small business in the late 1980’s and with six members of staff they continued to uphold the values of tradition and quality of the Brown family. By the early 1990’s they had purchased a new state of the art factory in Dumfriesshire, Brown Brothers Manufacturing Ltd. The new site paved the way for both frozen and chilled products to be manufactured and distributed, enabling the product range to be extended and providing continued opportunity for growth. Over the next decade Browns Food Group emerged through various acquisitions, becoming one of the leading independent manufacturers in the industry.

Operating from seven sites in the UK, each with their own area of expertise puts us, as a group, in the enviable position of being able to offer our customers an “across the board” choice of food products and services. Our most recent purchase in January 2013 was the well-known Scottish food brand Hall’s and the associated Van Sales operations from Vion Food Group.
