With a global supply network and portfolio of branded and customer own brand products, Princes is one of the UK’s largest food and drink groups, which has been proudly feeding families for over 140 years.

The company specialises in sourcing and manufacturing quality products and, as a leading international grocery supplier, millions of consumers across the UK and Europe buy our brands and own-label products every day.


Our history
Founded in Liverpool in 1880 as Simpson & Roberts, the company started life trading solely in canned fish. The Princes brand was established at the start of the 20th Century and we moved into manufacturing in 1946.

In 1989, Princes became a subsidiary of Japanese general trading company, Mitsubishi Corporation, and has grown steadily ever since with the merger and acquisition of new sites both around the UK and globally.


Where we are now
Princes’ head office is based in the UK (Liverpool) and the company also has a presence across continental Europe, with sales and marketing offices in Poland and France, tuna processing facilities in Mauritius, tomato processing in Italy and edible oils production in Poland. The company employs 7,000 people around the world.

Our manufacturing footprint spans 11 sites in the UK and 13 worldwide, producing canned food, edible oils and soft drinks.

Over 350 food products are available under the Princes brand, including fruit juices, canned vegetables and canned tuna. The Group also owns a portfolio of other household food and drink brands, including Napolina, the UK’s number one Italian cooking brand, and British soup producer, Crosse & Blackwell. Princes also produces and distributes several brands under licence, such as Branston and Flora.

Today, Princes produces 3,500 different food and drink products, sources ingredients from over 40 countries, has over 2,000 direct suppliers and recorded £1.533 billion in revenue as of March 31, 2020.

We have invested £150 million in recent years to transform our business. This includes redeveloping our sites to future-proof our manufacturing capabilities, refreshing our brands and overhauling our innovation strategy so that we can excite our customers and consumers, broaden our range and bring new products to market much faster.
