The PROFEL the European Association of Fruit and Vegetable Processors have recently issued a road map towards the European Green Deal. The report outlines the many initiatives undertaken by the industry in terms of sustainability and calls for Brussels to provide clarity and consistency in their legislative policy. The report also highlights the role the sector, both frozen and canned can play in reducing food waste, a major cause of greenhouse gas emissions.

Whilst we are now outside of the EU we still import a vast array of products into the UK manufactured by the various companies in PROFEL. The work they do will be critical in helping UK members to only understand their scope 3 emissions but also reduce them to meet the UK’s net zero target.

A copy of the report can be found by following this link.

The Federation is planning the next Special Interest Group (SIG) on Sustainability on the 30th September – if any member would like to join this meeting please contact Siobhan for details.
