BOOK NOW

Thursday 27th January 2022
Newark Showground, Nottinghamshire. NG24 2NY

Workplace transport was the second highest cause of fatal injuries in GB between 2020-2021
18% of all work-related fatalities reported were from a moving vehicle in 2020-2021 and with more employees returning to work as well as the roads, the topic of this event becomes all the more essential for industry Health and Safety professionals.

A thought provoking programme built with the safety of attendees in mind

The programme covers talks and demonstrations from HSE, Mentor Training, Brakes, A-Safe Barriers, D.tec, Brake UK and Highway England with an inspirational talk of a forklift accident from Lisa Ramos and David Garton.

The COVID protocol for the event has been built around the seminar programme to ensure all attendees are completely COVID safe throughout the day. If you have any concerns about the safety of this workplace transport and road risk event, please get in touch with our Head of Health and Safety, Simon Brentnall.

Workplace Transport
With workplace transport being the second cause of fatal injuries in GB with 25 deaths between 2020/21, it is crucial we make workplace transport the topic of this seminar.

On the day we will be joined by our expert Nina Day from HSE to explain more. With many workplace transport incidents caused by fork lift trucks we are joined by Mentor training to go through the 7 deadly sins and a practical session on forklift truck pre-use checks.

From our own membership Sue Rowland from the Brakes safety team will give us an insight of managing dock loading safety and key control.

The importance of vehicle and pedestrians separated with be demonstrated by A Safe barriers.
Finally, our keynote speakers Lisa Ramos and David Garton take us through their journey following Lisa’a workplace transport accident in 2006 in which she tragically lost her leg.

Work Related Road Risk
In terms of work-related road risk, the industry is currently experiencing driver shortages and fatalities reported in 2019 showed 66 goods vehicle fatalities (including heavy and light goods vehicles) not including drivers of company cars; therefore another pertinent topic.

BFFF will start the road risk session by delivering a real-life case study involving company car driver fatigue which Simon Brentnall personally investigated. NFU mutual will follow with the pitfalls of grey fleet with employees using their own vehicles.

With drugs and alcohol being a contributing factor in many road traffic collisions D.tec will provide an interactive session on how companies can protect themselves through solutions such as screening.
We will then be joined by the Brake, the road risk charity, to discuss behavioural risks and road safety for fleets.
Finally, Jim Magner from Driving For Better Business – Highways England, introduces their road safety campaign available for companies followed by the one fateful day film.
