ecoPortal will host Performing at Our Edge: Resilience, Psychological Safety and Asking for Help on 22 October 2026 at 2 PM BST. The one-hour webinar is part of the company’s Safety Voices series. It features former professional rugby league player and England international Dan Sarginson in conversation with senior enterprise account executive Julian Taylor. There will be a certificate issued for live attendees – you can save your spot here.
Safety conversations usually centre on equipment, processes and procedures. The session argues that people’s minds, energy and wellbeing are often the most overlooked part of safety. In high-pressure workplaces, the drive to deliver and keep going can quietly push people past their limits. Signs of burnout are frequently ignored or hidden until it is too late.
Sarginson has direct experience of this. After making his first-team debut at 17 and winning Grand Finals at Old Trafford with Wigan Warriors, he burnt out at the peak of his career in 2018 and was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Choosing to ask for support began a journey that led him to retire from rugby at 29. He now works with organisations and schools as a speaker and mentor in high performance and wellbeing.
Drawing on that experience and on what elite sport taught him about pressure and teamwork, Sarginson will discuss:
- Why asking for help is a strength, what stops people from doing it, and how leaders can make it safe to speak up before anyone reaches crisis point
- How safety culture can fuel or ease performance pressure, and how to pursue high performance without compromising wellbeing
- How psychologically safe environments allow for authenticity and creativity
- How to protect both physical and psychological health in the workplace
- Redefining resilience, not as simply pushing through, but as a mental foundation that makes high performance sustainable
