GOODNESS ME! CONTINUES TO LEAD THE MARKET AND TRANSFORM MENUS, 25 YEARS ON

As Meadowvale’s first branded food service product range launched over 25 years ago, Goodness Me! quickly became number 1 in popularity and central to the hospitality sector, from the school canteen to your favourite restaurant.

Throughout the years, Goodness Me! has remained largely unchanged, that is until now.

Meadowvale Foods is delighted to unveil exciting, new developments to the Goodness Me! Brand, it’s most sustainable range yet. Now using only responsibly sourced palm oil, with reduced salt & allergens, no phosphates and fully recyclable packaging.

Nigel O’Donnell, Managing Director of Meadowvale Foods explained, “I’m thrilled to share the developments we’ve made to the GoodnessMe brand. The brief was clear, continue to deliver on our core values of serving healthier, tastier chicken, that have made us so successful, whilst bringing it in line with our goal to reduce our impact on the environment.” Nigel continued, “The new look GoodnessMe packaging is now fully recyclable, eliminating at least 9 tonnes of plastic going to landfill every year. In terms of the product, we only use responsibly sourced palm oil (RSPO), allergens have been reduced, salt content meets FSA guidelines and the meat content has been increased. All of this has been achieved whilst continuing to deliver great tasting, healthier chicken, using only natural chicken breast fillet, which of course, is fully cooked and individually quick frozen to help reduce waste and eliminate the risk of handling raw poultry, even more important in today’s environment.”

With the change to recyclable packaging, we have also taken the opportunity to upgrade the pack design and introduce all new on trend imagery for greater stand out in freezer. We have also created a number of menu idea videos to demonstrate the flexibility of the range and provide inspiration. BFFF SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP (SIG) ON SUSTAINABILITY

Last week we joined frozen food trade federations from Germany, USA and France to discuss challenges and strategies around Sustainability.

It was interesting to hear that in America they seem to only be at the early stages of developing policies on a National scale – perhaps a reflection of the American decentralised approach.

Conversely both Germany and France are already well advanced in policies and progress on Sustainability, some driven by the EU but also from their own governments.

The French Federation (ADEPALE) advised that President Macron has stated he wants France to be a European leader on Sustainability with some very ambitious timescales. As an example, all packaging is to be recyclable by 2025.

The Federation is planning the next Special Interest Group (SIG) on Sustainability on the 30th September – if any member would like to join this meeting please contact Siobhan for details.

Cold storage facilities play a critical role in many industries, from food and beverage to pharmaceutical, electronics and more. There are other factors, as well, not the least of which is the world’s ever-increasing population, which ensures increasing demand. But also the ongoing global Corona-pandemic.

Post the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown, consumers have been more reluctant to shop at physical stores. Since the virus outbreak a steadily increasing number of consumers are leveraging the safety and convenience offered by e-commerce, causing online orders to skyrocket to new highs.

ASEAN FOOD AND DRINK EXPORTERS ASSOCIATION

We have been contacted by the ASEAN Food and Drink Exporters Association (they cover exports to Brunei Darussalam, Myanmar/Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam).

The ASEAN Forum is the platform where UK food and drink exporters to ASEAN markets come together in a roundtable format to share strategies and insights about their trade with ASEAN markets, along with in-market importers and distributors in ASEAN markets.

The Association will hold a webinar on Tuesday, 21st September 2021 at 9 am (UK time).

STUART TAYLOR CONFIRMED TO TALK ABOUT THE 7 DEADLY SINS IN FORKLIFT TRUCK SAFETY AT THIS YEARS WORKPLACE TRANSPORT AND ROAD RISK SEMINAR

M&S HAS JOINED FORCES WITH THE BRITISH FROZEN FOOD FEDERATION (BFFF) TO DEVELOP A NEW FROZEN FOOD RANGE

The move followed a ‘Meet The Buyer’ virtual event organised by the BFFF in May, which allowed the retailer to build new relationships with suppliers from all over the country.

M&S’s senior buyer Steven Brookes said the company was interested in growing its frozen food ranges as a way to encourage more customers to do their weekly shop at their foodhalls. “Working with the BFFF and its members has helped us to find new suppliers for our frozen range expansion, broadening choice for customers whilst still offering the M&S great quality and trusted value they know and love,”

The British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF) has hosted an exclusive ‘Meet the Buyer’ virtual event with Marks & Spencer after it made significant investments in its frozen point of sale collateral. The event in May, which was designed to help the retailer develop its frozen food range, was hosted online to ensure a safe experience for everyone involved and allow suppliers from all over the country to attend.

Richard Harrow, BFFF chief executive, said: “M&S has a clear ambition to grow its range of frozen food with additional space in-store – even before the pandemic hit, it identified frozen as one of the top 10 trends of 2020.

“The ‘Meet the Buyer’ event gave M&S the opportunity to connect with frozen food manufacturers. We’ve had great feedback from the M&S team and found it a mutually beneficial experience, having learnt a lot about how the retailer conducts its selection process, which can support members for future events.”

Steven Brookes, senior buyer for M&S, added: “M&S is focused on growing its frozen food ranges and making it easier for customers to shop bigger baskets by offering convenience for busy families. Working with the BFFF and its members has helped us to find new suppliers for our frozen range expansion, broadening choice for customers whilst still offering the M&S great quality and trusted value they know and love.”

One member who attended the event added: “The whole process was fantastic. The event was a great way to put potential suppliers and customers together in a way that fits the current situation. Having a dedicated time window allowed us to deliver a pitch that ensured the customer could get to know the real USP’s of our product.”

Another attendee said: “I found the M&S Meet the Buyer event to be very straightforward and a fantastic way to give suppliers and buyers the opportunity to meet virtually and quickly assess any areas of interest for future development.

“As a result of a small amount of preparation and a brief and friendly on-line meeting, we are now in the process of arranging follow-up meetings to explore how and where we can take things forward.”
