World Biogas Association joins Climate & Clean Air Coalition

World Biogas Association joins Climate & Clean Air Coalition

The World Biogas Association (WBA) has this week been accepted as a new Actor under the Agriculture and Waste Initiatives of the United Nations Environment Programme’s Climate & Clean Air Coalition (CCAC).

The CCAC’s partners and participants work in cooperation with key emitters of short-lived climate pollutants and other stakeholders around the world to encourage, enable and catalyse action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

WBA President David Newman said:

“We are delighted to join the CCAC, which works to reduce short-life climate pollutants, of which methane is a major contributor. WBA will offer its technical expertise to cities and countries around the world looking to reduce their methane emissions by encouraging them to capture these emissions in biogas plants and use wastewater and food waste treatment as a renewable energy feedstock. Joining the CCAC provides WBA with an excellent opportunity for the biogas industry to engage with institutions globally to assist and develop the use of biogas technologies to fight climate change.”

Biogas technologies reduce methane emissions through capturing emissions from organic wastes such as food waste, sewage, and agricultural wastes in anaerobic digesters, which recycle the wastes into renewable energy, clean transport fuel, and nutrient-rich biofertiliser.

WBA, which was founded in November 2016 at COP22 in Marrakech, recently launched a new report, Global Food Waste Management: An Implementation Guide For Cities, written in collaboration with C40 Cities. Amongst other topics, the report explores how cities around the world can reduce methane emissions through separately collecting food waste and recycling it using biogas technologies into valuable green products.

WBA will be holding the UK launch of the report at UK AD & World Biogas Expo 2018, the world’s largest tradeshow dedicated solely to AD and biogas, which it is organising in partnership with the UK Anaerobic Digestion & Bioresources Association. The expo will feature dedicated workshops and panel discussions on reducing methane emissions from organic wastes, as well as an awards ceremony celebrating the most innovative biogas projects from around the world.

LOVE ICE CREAM? LOVE VEGAN!

LOVE ICE CREAM? LOVE VEGAN!

Suncream Dairies has launched a new natural vanilla Vegan ice cream in response to the growing demand for free from desserts.

Love Vegan, made with real vanilla beans and flecked with vanilla pod seeds for a rich, indulgent flavour, is a perfect alternative to traditional dairy ice cream. Free from all 14 declarable allergens including gluten, soya, nut, lactose and egg, it is also registered with The Vegan Society.

“With veganism and free from predicted to be two of the fastest growing food trends, we wanted to create a non-dairy ice cream that everyone can enjoy,” commented Rebecca Manfredi, Suncream’s managing director.  “It’s packed full of flavour and despite being milk-free, delivers a lovely creamy mouth feel.”

Love Vegan Vanilla, made with coconut oil and dextrose,  is easy to scoop and available in 5 litre resealable Napoli containers – ideal for use ‘back of house’ or in Napoli scooping cabinets.

Gavin Kellett, Head Chef at the renowned The Vine Tree restaurant in Llangattock, Wales, and twice winner of The Cordon Vert Chef of the Future competition which specialises in vegetarian cuisine, commented: “At The Vine Tree we try to source the best possible ingredients and products.  We focus a lot on catering for vegans and we believe Suncream’s vanilla bean vegan ice cream is the best on the market.”

Love Vegan Vanilla is the latest addition to the Suncream ice cream collection which includes the Gelato Gold range of luxury Italian-style ice creams in 17 classic and contemporary flavours, premium Sorbets and the Summertime ‘value’ range.

“Ice cream remains a popular choice all year round – whether on its own, as an accompaniment to desserts or as a scoop for a treat – and with the demand for vegetarian and free from food growing all the time, it makes good business sense for caterers to offer a vegan option,” adds Rebecca.
