BFFF DELIVER SUCCESSFUL WORKPLACE TRANSPORT SAFETY DAY!

The latest HSE Statistics (2023/24) are showing us the second cause of fatality in the workplace is struck by moving vehicle. With this in mind BFFF held its Workplace Transport Safety day this week which was hosted by associate members Mentor FLT Training.

In the morning we listened to sessions on Material Handling Equipment (MHE) risk and why this is underestimated, fork lift truck prosecutions, production versus safety, innovation and how to complete a workplace transport risk assessment.

In the afternoon, things were ‘hands on’ with polymer barrier technology (PAS13:2017) to protect our people from ASafe UK, pre-use checks, defect identification from Mentor and some delegates got to operate reach trucks and counterbalance fork trucks for themselves. This provided a first-hand experience from an operator’s perspective and undertaken in controlled conditions at the Mentor training centre in Chesterfield. We have received some excellent feedback from our delegates taking some new essential skills back to the workplace.

BFFF’s Head of H&S Simon Brentnall states:

‘ This is a great example of how a trade association can collaborate with its members to deliver best practice across the frozen and wider food and drink industry. Thanks to all our members that attended, to Mentor for hosting and the support received from ASafe UK’

This is just one of many initiative the federation delivers to its members, to find out about future events please watch this space!

QUALIS TRADE LTD IS PART OF THE EU POULTRY COMPANY WHICH SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE AUDIT OF A MAJOR RETAILER

Tesco Stores, from the perspective of size and diversity of its chain, as well as the number of employees, remains one of the largest retailers in the Slovak market. During February 2024, Tesco conducted the Tesco Standard audit with its supplier at EU Poultry s.r.o. (parent company of QUALIS TRADE LTD). The result of the audit was excellent.

Currently, Tesco Stores in Slovakia continues to be one of the largest retail chains. It operates a wide range of retail formats: smaller express stores, supermarkets, hypermarkets, as well as petrol stations and an online supermarket. The annual turnover of more than 170 branches reaches 1.64 billion euros, and the chain employs almost 10,000 people. It primarily chooses its suppliers among local companies. The Tesco Stores technical group conducts ongoing audits with them to ensure they have the appropriate infrastructure, capabilities, and capacities to meet the chain’s quality standards.

“As specialists in the processing of quality chicken meat and its suppliers, we have met all the requirements of our business partner Tesco Stores. The fact that the results were even better than in the previous audit commits us. We want to continuously improve and progress, our effort for quality and innovation brings an effect,” stated Ing. Lucia Sláviková, Quality Assurance Manager of the EU Poultry s.r.o. production plant in Horné Saliby. In the highly competitive retail environment, it holds that chains only cooperate with suppliers who successfully pass their strict audit. This also applies to the Tesco Stores network, which, as one of the oldest chains in the world, has set many standards in retail. The Tesco Standard audit is one of them, and for the chain, it is carried out by TÜV NORD Slovakia, s.r.o. inspectors. EU Poultry s.r.o. has set high internal quality standards. In many parameters, they exceed the recommendations commonly accepted and established throughout the industry.

About QUALIS TRADE LTD: is a subsidiary of a Slovak company EU Poultry s.r.o., a specialist in the processing and distribution of high-quality chicken meat and meat products. EU Poultry s.r.o. supplies products to 22 European countries. Annually, it processes more than 40 thousand tons of poultry meat. In the year 2023, it achieved revenues of more than 158 million euros.
