Last week the BFFF had the privilege of visiting Seafast’s state-of-the art mega temperature controlled distribution centre in Felixstowe, this facility is port centric to support the needs of the frozen food sector. They provide bespoke and highly cost-effective and value-added services to meet the ever-changing demands of the refrigerated products sector. They also offer a wide range of frozen storage warehousing services to meet the specific needs of customers shipping chilled and frozen products into and from the UK and to countries worldwide.
When walking around this facility it seems the future has arrived and it’s all under one roof. This facility boasts a massive 750,000 sq. ft. ambient and cold storage with 16,000 dedicated frozen pallet spaces (ability to double on demand).
This facility uses the roof as a mini power station with 6180 solar panels generating an incredible 2.5 Mega Watts of clean energy, in fact solar energy powers 86% of the site.
In terms of the use of innovation and technology, the latest robots and cobots are used to palletise, package, label and store products at a rapid pace. Pictured below right to left David Baker Head of Cold Chain, Simon Brentnall Head of Health & Safety BFFF and Will Fensom Commercial Director.
