Business Development Manager

  • Develop a new business plan each year – targeting potential clients with a requirement for air, road and sea freight
  • Identify new prospects that fit the company’s growth plans
  • Deliver activity, opportunity and GP levels that meet the company’s KPIs and your targets
  • Draft and deliver bespoke proposals for new and existing clients
  • Close opportunities and generate new profitable customers for the Company increasing both customer portfolio size and revenue to the business
  • Working closely with the operations teams to identify opportunities within the existing portfolio
  • Complete salesforce with all potential and new customer accounts and opportunities and ensure all mandatory fields set by the Company are completed
  • Ensure you follow the ‘Rules of the hunt’ at all times
  • Track and manage profit levels across the portfolio of business
  • Monitor and report on trading volumes, trends.
  • Liaise with the Directors on potential new business and its impact on resources on a local and corporate level
  • Report on the key financials to the Directors
  • Undertake quarterly client business reviews
  • Liaise with the operations department for on boarding of new business
  • Attend and present business updates at the company’s sales conferences
  • Analyse market conditions and provide commercial solutions to the SMM
  • Maintain and develop the CRM system
  • Ensure new business opportunities are financially stable
  • Work closely with the operations team to ensure the customer accounts you bring on receive a personable and tailored service at all times to build loyalty and ensure repeat business
  • Maintain certain key customer relationships and carry out face to face meetings at reasonable intervals with the account manager as required to build the relationship, discuss additional needs and proactively collect feedback on AGI service and delivery
  • Re-engage with any former Branch customers they have not traded in the past 6 months on a rolling basis to ensure we continually retain and rebuild our customer portfolio
  • Ensure all individual and team communication with customers (verbal and written) is friendly and professional at all times

Support accounts and the management team with client monies owed ensuring payments are made within payment terms. Where invoices and payments become overdue by your clients, take responsibility for ensuring overdue debt is paid and resolve any issues that arise.

About the role

  • This is a full-time role
  • The base location for this role is Symmetry Park, Kettering, N14 1FQ

What you’ll do

  • Provide hands-on, site-based support to implement the SHE Management System and Greggs standards
  • Work closely with the Regional SHE Manager and site leadership teams to support effective delivery of SHE requirements at site level
  • Complete planned and ad-hoc site walkabouts, inspections and audits, recording clear, factual evidence and identifying compliance gaps
  • Support site teams with risk assessments and safe systems of work, ensuring controls are understood, applied and embedded in day-to-day operations
  • Provide practical, proportionate SHE advice to support effective operational control and legal compliance
  • Support the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses, contributing to root cause analysis and shared learning
  • Assist with the tracking and closure of SHE actions, ensuring issues are addressed within agreed timescales
  • Maintain accurate electronic SHE records and supporting evidence in line with company and regulatory requirements
  • Coach and support managers and teams to help build a positive, compliance-led SHE culture
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in SHE performance through engagement, assurance activity and feedback from site operations

About you

You’ll fit right into this role if you:

  • Hold a NEBOSH General Certificate or other recognised general safety qualification (or demonstrate a clear commitment to working towards one)
  • Demonstrate experience of environmental management activities, such as waste, water and energy management
  • Have experience of auditing and inspection activity within an operational or site‑based environment
  • Bring an engineering or machinery‑based background, with a strong understanding of plant, equipment and controls
  • Apply fire safety knowledge and/or relevant fire safety qualifications
  • Work effectively as part of a team, building strong working relationships at all levels
  • Communicate confidently, with excellent written and verbal skills and the ability to influence and engage others
  • Manage your workload effectively, using strong organisational skills to plan, prioritise and handle multiple tasks at pace

Team Leader - Production

Purpose of the Role

 

To lead and coordinate production operations within an automated bakery, ensuring output meets safety, quality, and efficiency standards. The Production Team Leader oversees line performance, supports operators, resolves production issues, and ensures smooth, continuous operation of automated equipment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the production team to achieve planned output, quality, and efficiency targets
  • Monitor automated bakery lines, identify performance issues, and escalate to Engineering when required
  • Coordinate changeovers, start-ups, and shutdowns in line with SOPs
  • Ensure compliance with safety, food hygiene, GMP, and site procedures
  • Maintain accurate production records, shift reports, and system updates
  • Work closely with Engineering to minimise downtime and support fault resolution
  • Provide training, coaching, and daily guidance to operators
  • Drive adherence to production schedules and optimise line flow
  • Support continuous improvement and root cause investigations
  • Ensure effective shift handovers and communication across teams

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Enforce site safety procedures and promote safe behaviours
  • Ensure compliance with risk assessments, permit-to-work boundaries, and hygiene standards
  • Report hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately
  • Participate in safety briefings and lead toolbox talks
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe production area

Developer / Technologist

The Role

Reporting to the Head of NPD, you will support the development and launch of innovative bakery products

for both retail and foodservice customers. Working closely with Commercial, Operations, Technical and

Procurement teams, you will manage projects through the entire development process, from concept

creation and kitchen development through to factory trials and successful launch.

This is a predominantly site-based role with occasional customer and supplier visits.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Develop new bakery products in line with customer briefs, market trends and business objectives.

• Manage development projects from concept through to commercial launch.

• Conduct recipe development, product benchmarking and sensory evaluation.

• Plan and execute factory trials, ensuring successful scale-up from development kitchen to

production

• Support product renovation, value engineering and cost optimisation initiatives.

• Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure products can be produced consistently and

efficiently.

• Investigate and resolve product and process challenges during development and launch.

• Present products and concepts to customers and internal stakeholders.

• Source and evaluate new ingredients and bakery technologies.

• Build strong relationships with ingredient suppliers.

• Complete product specifications, development reports and supporting documentation.

• Ensure products meet all quality, food safety and legal requirements.

• Monitor market trends and competitor activity to identify future opportunities.

 

Candidate Profile

Essential

• Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Bakery Science or a related discipline, or equivalent

industry experience.

• Previous experience within a bakery manufacturing environment.

• Understanding of bakery ingredients, dough systems and baking processes.

• Strong practical product development skills.

• Experience supporting factory trials and product scale-up.

• Excellent organisational and project management skills.

• Strong communication and presentation abilities.

• Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.

• A genuine passion for bakery products and food innovation.

Desirable

• Experience developing burger buns, brioche, rolls, artisan breads or related bakery products.

• HACCP qualification or awareness.

• Understanding of frozen and ambient bakery manufacturing.

• Experience working with retail and foodservice customers.

• Knowledge of ingredient functionality including enzymes, improvers, sourdoughs and emulsifiers.

• Experience working within a BRCGS-accredited manufacturing environment.
