As the UK’s leading provider of material handling equipment training, Mentor has introduced condensed re-registration courses for experienced forklift instructors, making it easier for qualified professionals to maintain their certification while minimising time away from work.
Regular re-registration plays a vital role in ensuring instructors maintain the highest standards of safety and teaching practice. It helps prevent skills from deteriorating, reinforces current best practice, and reduces the risk of bad habits developing over time, and is therefore a requirement for an instructor to retain their certification.
Instructor training standards are crucial as these individuals set the guidelines for others within the business on how to operate potentially hazardous equipment safely. And with around 1,300 serious injuries from incidents involving lift trucks reported in the UK each year, receiving the proper training remains essential to keeping everyone safe and reducing accidents.
Mentor’s standard AITT accredited re-registration course takes five days but, to maximise efficiency, they are now offering experienced instructors a time-saving alternative that meets all the same vital standards.
Where instructors are actively delivering regular training within their businesses, their re-registration training can be reduced to three days, helping proficient candidates maintain their qualifications while spending less time away from the workplace. This also means reduced travel and accommodation costs for those completing instructor training off site.
The three-day course is also suitable for direct entry candidates, who are already qualified instructors under another accrediting body and wish to become registered with AITT.
Though more concise, the course remains fully accredited, with instructors tested to the same assessment standards and receiving the same certification. This external verification gives employers confidence that the new format meets the same recognised industry standards as all of Mentor’s accredited forklift training.
Mentor Training’s Commercial Director, Adam Smith, said: “Offering a reduced course length isn’t a decision we’ve taken lightly. The three-day re-registration has been designed specifically for experienced professionals who can demonstrate a high level of competence, so it won’t be suitable for everyone, but where this is feasible, instructors benefit from a streamlined course and minimised downtime away from their roles.”
“Crucially, customers can be assured that there is no compromise in standards here. Our priority is simple: to make sure instructors get quality-assured training that gives them the confidence and skills to deliver safe, robust operator courses on their own sites. It’s all part of our ongoing commitment to meeting customers’ needs and making sure our safety and compliance services also deliver real productivity benefits for their teams and their businesses.”
