The British Frozen Food Federation is working with the Association of Labour Providers to help promote the Spare Worker Availability Portal (SWAP) and the Essential Workers Needed Portal (EWNP) . The ALP describes the Worker support portals as the following:

In these unprecedented times, collaboration is essential to support displaced workers to transfer to where work is available to ensure the nation is fed and supplied with essential goods.

The Wholesale Support Platform

Since the closure of the hospitality sector, the supply chain into the Out of Home market is overstocked with chilled products that are fast approaching the end of their shelf life. Some frozen stock may be adding to the issue.

Our Federations urgently need to understand the scale of the problem we are facing so that we and other trade bodies can find ways to help the industry deal with this stock and mitigate potential food waste.

This may include selling at below cost to companies such as Company Shop or giving the food away to charity operations such as Fareshare. We are also working on options to provide guidance on freezing some chilled lines to provide additional life.

BFFF in conjunction with the FWD and PTF has launched a platform on the BFFF website to collate data on this stock. Here you can list details of the top ten chilled and frozen lines you have overstocks on plus the total value of stock under threat.

All three Federations are making strong representations to Government to ensure that if our industry takes this action, there will be some form of recompense for the inevitable financial losses that will occur.

We appreciate these are extremely difficult and busy times for everyone. But please do take a few moments to upload your data to allow us to understand the scale of the issue.

MUD Champions Again at CLASS CHAMPION, VEGAN PIE

Mud’s vegan pie has just won class champion at the 2020 British Pie Awards to become officially the Tastiest Vegan Pie in the country! This is the third mud variety to be awarded class champion in 4 years.

The prestigious British Pie Awards are possibly the most significant measure of quality in the pie world. This year, 848 pies from 160 pie-makers, entered in 23 classes and were judged by 140 judges. Every year the competition gets tougher and tougher, so this is an amazing result for a small artisan bakery. We pride ourselves on excellent quality locally-sourced ingredients and our quest for perfection has paid off.
