THE SKY’S THE LIMIT WITH DAWN’S NEW LAYER CAKE MIXES

Create unique celebration cakes using Dawn’s new American Style Layer Cake Mixes, available in three delicious varieties: Chocolate, White and Vanilla.

Featuring a delicate, incredibly light texture and delicious flavour with a tight crumb structure that supports multiple layering, these new mixes enable bakers to create tall, authentic, American style layer cakes that hold their structure and slice well.

Dawn American Style Layer Cake Mixes partner well with Dawn Frostings, Fillings and Dobla Chocolate Decorations.  The Vanilla and Chocolate varieties of the mixes combine great taste and natural flavours with a formula that delivers consistent, flat, even layers and volume. The White has been specially developed to hold colour without bleeding, helping bakers to produce spectacular multi-coloured layer and ombre layer cakes that are a social media sensation.  Layer cakes make great birthday and celebration cakes or show stopping desserts.

Twist of Lemon Layer Cake

Ingredients

For 1 Cake Ø24 cm

1150 g (3 x 350 g) Layer Cake Batter

150 g Dawn® Delifruit Classic Blueberry

150 g Dawn® Delicream Lemon

300 g Dawn® Vanilla or Cream Cheese Frosting

Lemon Slices, Fresh Blueberries

Basic Recipe

Layer Cake Batter:

1000 g Dawn® Layer Cake Mix Vanilla

660 g Water

120 g Vegetable Oil

1780 g Total

Method

Layer Cake Batter

Mix all ingredients with flat beater for 1 minute on low speed, then mix 3-5 minutes on medium speed. Mix for further 1 minute on low speed.

Fill the Layer Cake Batter into ring forms.

Bake for 45 minutes in a deck oven at 175 º – 180 º C or rack oven: 150 º – 160 º C.

Assembly

Spread each layer with Dawn® Delifruit Classic Blueberry and Dawn® Frosting. Then sprinkle Dawn® Delicream Lemon on top of the frosting and sandwich with another cake layer and repeat the process. On the top cake layer spread only the Dawn® Frosting and don’t cover the sides of the layers to achieve the trendy ‘naked’ cake look.

Decorate with lemon slices and fresh blueberries.

Innovative foodservice brand Country Range has strengthened its pastry selection with the launch of a Three Cheese and Onion Roll.

The latest launch by the brand, which as lead sponsor recently launched the 2018/19 Student Chef Challenge, is available immediately to operators via the Group’s network of independent wholesalers in packs of 60 x 162g approx.

Baked from frozen in just 30 minutes for a flaky pastry and gooey cheesy centre, the new launch is suitable for vegetarians and perfect for caterers looking to offer their customers a tasty handheld snack for breakfast, brunch or lunch.

Country Range 6” Three Cheese and Onion Roll – Frozen puff pastry filled with a Cheddar cheese, red Leicester cheese and onion mix, topped with an Italian hard cheese and rusk topping.

ICELAND LAUNCHES READY MADE SCRAMBLED EGGS

Iceland has launched Ready Scrambled Eggs (£1.50, 250g)  – ready in just 90 seconds and designed to provide a convenient breakfast option.

Each pack is made with four free range British eggs with a dash of milk and seasoning.

Iceland’s Head Chef Neil Nugent said: “Convenience and quality is fundamental to all of Iceland’s dishes, even simple ones likes scrambled egg. It’s really easy for our customers to cook at work with limited resources on offer, or those needing a speedy breakfast at home.

“Our ready-made scrambled eggs are made using British free range eggs with a little seasoning and are ready in just 90 seconds. For the perfect  breakfast, serve on seeded bread with smoked salmon.”

The Ready Scrambled Eggs (£1.50, 250g) are available in store and online now.

Kara, the foodservice specialist of the Finsbury Food Group, has announced the launch of a new premium option to join its fruit teacake range. The new product contains a number of enhancements in taste, aroma and aesthetic to improve the overall dining experience for consumers and boost Kara’s current fruit teacake offering.

The Premium Fruit Teacake contains double the amount of mixed fruit in each batch, giving every teacake more exciting and appetising visual appeal. The extra fruit mix contains, currants, raisins, orange and lemon peel; perfect for delivering extra citrus flavours and a more exotic aroma when toasting.

FIRST AGRO MERCHANTS TRUCK DELIVERED TO GROCONTINENTAL

The first AGRO Merchants Group liveried vehicle has been delivered to Grocontinental and will be driven by the company’s longest-ever serving employee, Brian Evans, who has notched up 45 years on-the-road.

Grocontinental became part of the AGRO Merchants Group at the end of last year and the delivery of the new vehicle, an MAN TGX-XLX, heralds the start of the Grocontinental fleet carrying the AGRO Merchants Group branding.

The new vehicle follows the recent purchase of 12 new refrigerated Schmitz trailers at the Shropshire-based company. A tender process, encompassing a number of major vehicle manufacturers, is also underway for the purchase of future vehicles.

From its 35-acre site in Whitchurch, Shropshire, Grocontinental operates a fleet of 60 vehicles and 120 trailers and has a storage capacity of 197,000 pallet spaces of multi-temperature storage from -28°c to +12°c including ambient, chilled and frozen.

Speaking about the new vehicle arriving on-site, Chris Moss, AGRO Merchants Group’s Managing Director for UK & Ireland, said:

“This is a real milestone for the integration of Grocontinental into the AGRO Merchants Group and the increasing visibility of the Group across the UK.

“It’s very fitting that the first new vehicle will be driven by Grocontinental’s longest-serving member of staff, Brian Evans. To complete 45 years working with one company is an incredible achievement and Brian’s passion for driving has not diminished over the years. He is taking charge of a vehicle which is a bit more sophisticated than the trucks he first drove in the 1970s!”

Grocontinental will commence a comprehensive rebranding programme towards the end of the year.

Former owners, brother and sister, David and Linda Grocott, continue to head-up the company as Managing Directors.
