CoolKit has the full package

CoolKit has the full package

The CoolKit Aftersales team

CoolKit has once again answered the industry requirements by creating an in-house aftercare department, providing refrigerated vehicle service, maintenance and repair nationwide.

Previously CoolKit has worked in partnership with sister company CVS Refrigeration, concentrating on the North-West area. However, the department has now been moved in-house with a network of mobile refrigeration engineers available nationwide.

Colin Cooper, Aftersales Operations Manager, said: “It is important to us that our customers feel valued throughout the life-cycle of the refrigerated vehicle and know that they can rely on CoolKit should they require any assistance.

“Our engineers have a full understanding of the different types of refrigeration units within the industry, and close partnership with all the leading names. We are equipped to complete the services and repairs fast and effectively, keeping our customer’s fridge vans off the road for as little time as possible.”

CoolKit has customers in a vast range of market sectors, from pharmaceutical transportation, foodservice and catering, couriers and national leasing companies. The aftersales team is available to assist clients with queries regarding servicing and repair work, advice on running their fridge vans efficiently and provide an account management solution with effective maintenance packages.

CoolKit has three maintenance packages on offer – starter, enhanced and ultimate – depending on customer requirements, as well as pay-as-go service and repair as and when required.

The new department is also supported by a help-desk and account management team based in-house at the head office in Burnley, Lancashire, with a focus on excellent customer service and a can-do attitude. The team make it a priority to understand the customer’s requirements and provide a tailored support system to match each unique business.

With an out-of-hours and weekend service, fridge van operators can be reassured that they can find a trustworthy and reliable partner within the newly launched CoolKit aftercare team.

ARYZTA Launches Four New Sourdough Breads for Foodservice

ARYZTA Food Solutions Launches Four New Sourdough Breads for Foodservice

UK foodservice specialist ARYZTA Food Solutions is bringing four new crafted sourdough breads to the UK market, helping caterers profit from a highly popular variety and put provenance at the very top of their menus.

Supplied frozen and part baked, the new range which includes a Sourdough Bloomer, XL White Sourdough, Sourdough Baguette and innovative and delightfully spiced new Fruit & Nut Sourdough Loaf, offer an authentic subtle flavour, open crumb texture and a crisp rich crust. The crust, which has come to define this iconic bread, is enhanced by stone baking, making for an even more pleasing texture.

Upholding the traditional artisan methods that set sourdough apart, including hand cutting and finishing, ARYZTA’s new breads are made using a stiff starter dough with a rigorous five-day fermentation process. With traceability top of mind, the flours – stone milled and free from added preservatives or dyes – are sourced from Aveyron in southern France – a territory renowned for its diverse ecosystem and rich soil.

ARYZTA Food Solutions’ Head of Marketing, Paul Whitely comments: “The craftsmanship and quality represented in these breads really is something to behold. As a leader in bakery, ARYZTA has the expertise and means to make great bread accessible to everyone. Frozen at source, these breads maintain their freshness right up until service, and can help to save on costly wastage, making them perfect for a variety of sectors, from cafes and delis, through to restaurants, bars, hotels and the B&I sector.”

The four new sourdough varieties will be making their tasting debut on ARYZTA Food Solutions’ stand (C70) at the forthcoming Northern Restaurant and Bar event (20th-21st March, Manchester Central).

ARYZTA Food Solutions is a UK foodservice specialist – parent to a family of brands to meet the needs of modern hospitality. Sub-brands include: high-end frozen patisserie and viennoiserie brand, Coup de pates; essential ingredients and ready meal solutions from everyday bakery brand, La Carte; gourmet Swiss bakery brand, Hiestand; American sweet bakery brand, Otis Spunkmeyer and inspirational ingredients and garnishes from Bouquet Garni. Bühler achieves strong, profitable growth

Bühler achieves strong, profitable growth

2017 was a successful year for the Bühler Group. Bühler organically increased its order intake by 10% to CHF 2.8 billion, its turnover by 9% to CHF 2.7 billion, and its EBIT by 18% to CHF 205 million (EBIT margin: 7.7%). As of year-end, its order backlog amounted to CHF 1.7 billion (+9%). “Our innovation power provides the basis for this positive development of our organization,” says Bühler CEO Stefan Scheiber. These results mirror Bühler’s positioning as a provider of integrated process solutions for sustainable mobility and healthy food. “In 2017, this clear focus has enabled us to continue to expand our technology and market positions and to further increase our competitiveness,” says Scheiber. The same also applies for the acquisition of the Austrian Haas Group, which now allows Bühler to also occupy a leading position in the consumer foods market. “We have increased our dynamism perceptibly and face the new fiscal year with confidence, not least thanks to our high order backlog,” continues Scheiber.

Both Bühler businesses contributed to this strong growth. Grains & Food increased its order intake and turnover by 7% to CHF 2.1 billion and CHF 2.0 billion, respectively. Advanced Materials boosted its order intake by 21% to CHF 672 million and its turnover by 19% to CHF 640 million. Growth was also strong in the service business and the business for single machines, which together now account for 32% of total turnover.

Market share gains were achieved in particular by milling, feed, optical sorting, aluminum die casting, and optical coatings. In regional terms, order intake growth was especially pronounced in the Middle East & Africa (+48%) and Asia (+18%).

This operating performance further strengthened the already very sound financial position of Bühler. Net profit surged by 22% to CHF 174 million, representing a net profit margin of 6.5% (previous year: 5.9%). Significantly higher capital investments of CHF 100 million (+41%) – among other things in the modernization and expansion of the global production network – lay the ground for Bühler’s future profitable business development. Despite the issue of a corporate bond, the equity ratio remained at a high level of 45% (previous year: 47%), and the return on net operating assets (RONOA) rose to 21% (previous year: 19%). “In order to safeguard our entrepreneurial flexibility and to use the current beneficial conditions in the financial markets, we decided to launch a corporate bond on the capital market,” says CFO Andreas Herzog.

Becoming the Number 1 in the consumer food market with Haas

The acquisition of the Austrian Haas Group, announced in 2017, was a highlight in the past fiscal year. The closing of the transaction took place in early 2018. Haas is the global leader in the manufacturing of plants and equipment for making wafers, waffles, cakes, and cookies, with over 1,750 employees and turnover of around EUR 300 million. The machinery and solutions of the two companies supplement each other excellently. This step opens up great perspectives for Bühler and Haas alike. Both organizations together hold a leading position in the consumer foods market and can offer customers integrated, sustainable, single-source solutions along the entire value chain.

Unique innovation model drives growth

The starting point for these sustainable process solutions are the leading technologies that Bühler develops on the basis of a unique collaborative innovation model. In 2017, Bühler once again increased its investments in research and development (R&D) by 10% to CHF 119 million (about 4.5% of total turnover) and launched over 50 innovative technologies and products. One special focus was on the development of new digital services and business models, of which several have now been rolled out.

The significance of innovative solutions is exemplified by the market launch of a new process for manufacturing battery slurry – a key component for manufacturing lithium-ion batteries. Bühler’s continuous mixing process is unique in the industry: raw materials dosing, premixing, kneading, fine dispersing, and degassing are accomplished in a single unit. This novel technology improves the quality and performance of batteries and allows a new battery generation to be rolled out which has a considerably higher energy density. After years of joint development efforts, the first ten industrial-scale production lines went on stream in 2017 at the Chinese battery manufacturer Lishen. Additional orders are in the pipeline.

Expansion and modernization of the global production network

Bühler also further expanded its global production network. The focus here was on the opening of the new factory in Changzhou, China, and the modernization of the Swiss manufacturing sites.

The new factory in Changzhou went into service in September 2017 and serves as a global manufacturing and R&D center for animal feed production systems. The focus here is on process solutions and complete plants for processing livestock feeds, aqua feeds, and pet foods. In terms of manufacturing capacity, Changzhou is one of the three largest production sites that Bühler operates.

The efforts announced in the past year for updating the Swiss locations are on track. The goal of this project, which is projected to be completed within roughly five years, is to transform Uzwil into a globally leading production site in which Industry 4.0 technologies are applied. This is to ensure the long-term competitiveness of Bühler’s Swiss sites. The first renewal phase in the production and supply chains of mass-produced parts has largely been completed.

Kickoff of the CUBIC Innovation Campus

Bühler celebrated the groundbreaking of its innovation campus in Uzwil (CUBIC) in September 2017. The innovation campus is made up of two elements: the updated technology labs and the new innovation building. The campus is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2019. This substantial capital investment is an expression of Bühler’s commitment to innovation, technology, and Switzerland’s standing as a manufacturing hub. The campus will strengthen the innovation power and market leadership of Bühler for the long-term. Its purpose is to contribute to the development of innovations for a better world together with partners from industry, academia, NGOs, and start-ups.

Outlook

Bühler faces the future with confidence. For the current fiscal year, the Group expects to continue its present profitable growth path. “Our market foundations are sound. With our leading technologies and solutions we intend to achieve above-average performance in 2018 as well,” says Scheiber.

Dalziel Ingredients introduces flexitarian options

Dalziel Ingredients introduces flexitarian options

Dalziel Ingredients is targeting the flexitarian market by serving up new flavour concepts for food manufacturers looking to develop healthier food choices.

The UK specialist in bespoke seasoning blends, cures and functional ingredients has seen a sharp rise in demand from processors for healthier plant-based options, as more consumers adopt a flexitarian diet.

Examples introduced by Dalziel Ingredients include pork mushroom, lentil and spinach sausages; curried pork meatballs packed with cauliflower and chickpeas, and beef chilli con carne burgers packed with kidney beans and mixed peppers.

“These are just a few concepts that may appeal to customers who are seeking to reduce their meat intake without compromising on their mealtime favourites,” explained Denise McGrahan, NPD Marketing Coordinator at Dalziel Ingredients.

She said: “The flexitarian trend for a more vegetable based diet with less meat is creating huge demand for more creative and unusual flavour ideas as well as functional ingredients.

“Food manufacturers are increasingly asking us to develop new flexitarian products in their ranges, particularly for sausages, meatballs and beef mince products.

“We can create any flavour, but the skill is to include it in meat without losing the integrity of the product.

“And our functional ingredients, like citrus and vegetable fibres, help bind the products together, and that further contributes to the vegetable content.”

It’s reflection of the company’s approach to pushing boundaries with new techniques and products, added Dalziel Ingredients’ Sales Director Richard Wilson.

“We can help manufacturers look for interesting ways to add healthier options to their menus.  At our state-of-the-art development centre, we focus on taking ideas and delivering appealing, commercially viable end-products.”

All Dalziel Ingredients’ products – seasonings, complete mixes, rubs, glazes, functional blends, batters, crumbs, snack seasonings, cures and brines – can be developed as gluten free, and existing products can re reformulated to be gluten free.

Dalziel Ingredients’ product development team advises food manufacturers on new flavour concepts and trends, market analysis, factory processes, recipe formulations and product quality enhancements.

Functionality, appearance and flavour are all important trademarks of the Dalziel Group, which has a heritage as a market leading, family owned food service specialist going back nearly 90 years.
