BRITISH FROZEN FOOD FEDERATION HEALTH & SAFETY GROUP MEETS AT ARCO RDC

The British Frozen Food Federation Health & Safety Group met this week at the Arco RDC in Hull. This group is made up of 33 senior OSH professionals within membership, we meet 3 times per year to discuss industry hot topics.

Topics discussed this time were:

  • The new government & OSH,
  • the debate on -15°C,
  • risk assessments for MHE/Lithium-ion,
  • electrical safety (LOTO),
  • coldstore guidance and
  • managing contractors.

Our guest speakers were Keith Grimsley and Mike Clayton from Arco professional services on working at height.

To conclude the day, we had a fascinating tour of the Arco laboratory, as a responsible company Arco tests all PPE before putting into to the marketplace to ensure its meets current safety standards. The tour included looking at how the company tests hi-visibility clothing for luminescence and work clothing for durability, fire resistance, water resistance and sustainability. They also demonstrated cut resistance testing on gloves, ballistic testing on eyewear and impact testing and slip resistance on footwear.

We all gained some continuous professional development (CPD) and witnessed at first-hand what goes on behind the scenes to ensure PPE does its job when you actually need it! We would like to thank Arco for being the perfect hosts and allowing us to use their state of the art facilities in Hull. Thanks to all our members that dedicated their valuable time to be part of this group.

AR RACKING IMPLEMENTS 12,000 PALLET POSITIONS FOR ICESTAR IN CHILE

• Icestar chooses AR Racking for its prestige and commitment.

• Implementation of storage solutions for 12,000 positions with expansion plans for a further 40,000 positions in Chile by the end of 2024 and 2025.

The storage solutions leader AR Racking has carried out a major project for Icestar, leading company in storage and logistics of frozen and refrigerated products in Chile. This action represents a significant landmark in the expansion and continuous improvement of the logistical capabilities of Icestar, strengthening its ambitious growth and operational excellence plan.

Icestar has experienced exceptional growth in recent years, establishing itself as one of the main actors in the storage and logistics sector in Chile and in Latin America. With the acquisition of several strategic facilities and a proactive approach to both organic and inorganic expansion, Icestar has positioned itself today as an industry benchmark.

“We are committed to offering the best service to our customers and being closer to them with end-to-end solutions”, said Juan Andrés Morales, Procurement Manager at Icestar. “Our association with AR Racking reflects this commitment, allowing us to implement next-generation storage solutions that optimise our operational efficiency and position us for continued growth”.

The project with AR Racking was focused on the implementation of racking systems for the new storage chambers of Icestar, to maximise storage capacity, increasing it to more than 35,000 positions with excellent selectivity of the stored load. This will make us the largest and most efficient storage and distribution centre in Santiago, considering also its privileged location for distributing frozen and refrigerated products from different industries and categories: supermarkets, food service, proteins, processed food, vegetables, fish, etc. Icestar chose for this opportunity AR Racking for its prestige, quality and proven commitment during the entire process. “We were not wrong to trust in AR Racking”, said Morales. “They properly fulfilled the agreed schedule and showed exceptional flexibility during the execution and start-up of the project”.

Additionally, Icestar has begun the construction of its new storage and distribution centre in Coronel, as part of its commitment to be closer to its customers and deliver end-to-end solutions, expanding its presence in Chile. With an initial storage capacity of 16,000 frozen pallets and a second stage planned in 2025 to add 40,000 positions, where AR Racking will once again work with the company so that this facility further strengthens Icestar’s logistics capacity and its position as market leader.

“We are excited about Icestar’s future and our continuous collaboration with AR Racking”, Morales added. “We are sure that these initiatives will help us achieve our next goal of being number one in Chile and, subsequently, the whole of Latin America”.
