CARGILL UNVEILS SEAWEED POWDER TO ADDRESS CONSUMERS’ APPETITES FOR LABEL-FRIENDLY INGREDIENTS

New WavePure® series brings indulgence from only natural seaweed components

Food manufacturers can now achieve the rich eating experience consumers desire with Cargill’s new label-friendly WavePure® seaweed powder. Produced from native seaweed and obtained without chemical modification, Cargill is the first to make large, commercial-scale quantities of this familiar and versatile ingredient available to its European customers.

The company’s first offering in the line, the WavePure ADG series, is sourced from Gracilaria red seaweed, which is considered a traditional food ingredient in the European Union. As a result, there are various options for labeling with a reference to the seaweed source.

From a formulation perspective, the ADG series is well-suited for dairy desserts, serving as a recognizable alternative to less familiar ingredients. With WavePure ADG, smooth and creamy textures bring an optimal organoleptic experience, while also offering excellent gelling and thickening properties.

The ADG series debut ingredient, WavePure ADG 8250, is a proven solution for dairy desserts and the company expects to extend the range to other applications. In addition, Cargill is exploring opportunities to provide customers with a full line of seaweed powder solutions that tap into the rich diversity of other seaweed species.

Cargill continues to work to enhance the sustainability of all its seaweed ingredients, including WavePure. Ultimately, the company’s goal is to make WavePure ingredients a part of its Red Seaweed Promise™ program, which embraces sustainable seaweed production practices, enhances producer livelihoods and supports local communities.

THE SURPLUS MANUAL (2021) BY COMPANY SHOP GROUP

At Company Shop Group, we don’t suggest that we know everything about surplus stock management, but we do know that we have learned a lot over the last fifty years. Our combination of heritage and innovation means that we are as passionate about surplus management now as John Marren was when he first spotted the potential in surplus stock in the 1970s.

As an extension to our Knowledge Library, ‘The Surplus Manual’ is an accessible digest of that learning. We have created it for anyone who is interested in our model and who believes, as we do, that intelligent surplus management is an asset for business, a benefit for the planet and a force for good in communities everywhere.

MORE THAN ANYTHING, THIS BOOK IS A RESPONSE TO THE FEEDBACK THAT WE RECEIVE SO OFTEN – “I DIDN’T KNOW YOU COULD DO THAT!

WANT TO KNOW MORE? CLICK HERE TO READ THE SURPLUS MANUAL.

Throughout ‘The Surplus Manual’, we share a wealth of examples and explore practical solutions for the sustainable redistribution of surplus products, many of which you may currently be treating as waste. We know that some people will come to ‘The Surplus Manual’ with a specific product or a specific problem in mind. Others have a more general interest in an area or type of stock which seems to pose an ongoing problem in their business.

UK RETAILERS AND WHOLESALERS BENEFITTING FROM CENTRAL LOCATION FOR CHILLED CROSS DOCKED PALLETS

Since total supply chain solutions provider Oakland International’s state-of-the-art chilled and deep chilled Coalville warehouse opened in September 2020, it has seen a significant uplift in enquiries from manufacturers looking for an optimum cross-docking platform for products destined for UK retailers and wholesalers.

Oakland International’s Distribution Director Martin Pearson commented: “Along with the storage and picking capability, we were aware that the location of the Coalville site also presented an optimum solution for food manufacturers looking to pick their own orders onto pallets for onward distribution to their UK retailer and wholesaler customers.

“We welcome these enquiries as this volume is entirely complimentary to our site volume distribution operations and the synergies it provides allows us to drive costs down across the supply chain for the benefit of all.’’

Coalville’s 225,000 sq. ft unit is a multi-million-pound investment for Oakland International with plans in place to install solar panels to make the warehouse carbon neutral as part of their focus towards becoming the first carbon-neutral business within their sector. They are also BRC AA accredited, and double Queen’s Award for Enterprise recipients for International Trade and Sustainable Development.

Added Martin: “Coalville is the perfect solution for anyone re-evaluating their cross-docking transport supply chain, and we welcome the opportunity to explain the benefits of this exciting development.”

Operating 24-hours/7 days a week, Oakland International is a B2C/B2B specialist in contract packing, storage, picking, food distribution and brand development support provider for ambient, chilled and frozen food to the retail, convenience, discount, wholesale and food service markets in the UK, Ireland and via their partner in Spain. Employing some 600 people, the company’s head office is in Redditch, with other facilities located in Corby, Dublin, and Worksop.

MARSHALL FLEET SOLUTIONS AWARDED ‘THERMO KING BLUE TRACK SELECT DEALER’ ACCREDITATION

Leading commercial vehicle company Marshall Fleet Solutions (MFS) has been awarded the Thermo King Blue Track Select Dealer Accreditation for 2021 by Thermo King Europe.

The Thermo King Blue Track Select Dealer Accreditation programme was launched by TK at the end of 2020 and replaces the previous ‘Platinum Award’ dealer scheme that MFS had been successful with in every consecutive year since 2017.

Blue Track is a significant change from the Platinum award and is a brand-new strategic programme that Thermo King has developed for its European dealer network with the goal to anticipate the market challenges and most importantly, to ensure a superior customer experience.

“Blue Track is a big step up from its predecessor scheme, with much tighter and more detailed requirements to be satisfied, in order to be recognised as one the best performing European dealers for TK,” said Mark Howell, Managing Director at MFS, “To be named as Thermo King Blue Track Select dealer is a recognition that is only handed out to a select few dealers across the whole of Europe.”

Mark continues, “MFS was recognised for this accreditation because we met the demanding set of requirements that Thermo King use to identify its best-performing dealers. Without doubt, this is a testament to the amazing service we are now providing to our customers and of course, this sort of recognition simply wouldn’t happen without the hard work of everyone in the MFS team.”
