With the recent COP 26 climate change conference at the forefront, we thought we would update you on the federations contribution in lowering its carbon footprint.
The old office lighting had become significantly less effective with many fluorescent tubes starting to fail and replacement lighting units obsolete, so we have replaced our office lighting panels fitted by local company LS Electrical.
We turned to LED panels which use 85% less energy than the previous fluorescent tube panels. We believe the new LED units will prove a significant cost saving for the federation, with the maintenance free LED lighting paying for itself within 3 years.
To put this into perspective, just replacing a few office lights has the potential to give the Federation a Carbon Saving per month of 0.072 tonne’s CO2 or 0.86 tonne’s CO2 per annum. In addition, there are other advantages such as providing employees with an improved working environment and also reduction in fire risk due to old light fittings failing/overheating.
