BFFF PRESIDENT PRAISES RESILIENCE OF FROZEN FOOD

Peter AllanBritish Frozen Food Federation (BFFF) president, Peter Allan, praised the level of economic recovery in the UK and the growth of frozen but suggested there is still a long way to go until consumer confidence returns.

In his speech yesterday Mr Allan, general manager and director at Cargill Meats Europe, said: “Commentators have been surprised by both the strength and the breadth of the economic turnaround, however a low level of wage inflation has resulted in a much healthier economy but less happy individuals, many of whom are still struggling to see any real increase in their disposable income.”

Highlighting the struggle experienced by the UK’s retail industry as a whole, Mr Allan pointed to positives of the last 12 months such as frozen food’s continued growth in retail and the strong signs of growth in the varied foodservice industry.

During the event at London’s Hilton Park Lane, industry body BFFF also introduced its new board and chairman.

Mr Allan added: “As part of a five year strategic plan, we are reviewing each aspect of the federation’s work. This year we have introduced the roles of chairman and chief executive to work with a BFFF board as part of a programme of modernisation.

“We are becoming a more modern, progressive and effective organisation, allowing us to support our industry and ensuring that we deliver benefits and services to all members in the future.”

The BFFF Annual Luncheon brought together over 900 members and industry professionals at one of the biggest networking opportunities on the frozen food industry calendar.
