Newark-based Butterfly Poultry has officially received its King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, following a presentation at the company’s headquarters on Monday 5 October.
The award was presented by the Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Professor Veronica Pickering OBE MBS HAC, alongside Deputy Lieutenant Mark Goldby, recognising Butterfly Poultry’s significant growth and success in international trade.
Butterfly Poultry has more than 30 years’ experience in the meat trading industry and has evolved from a UK-based operation into an increasingly global trading business. The company now supplies customers across Europe, Africa, Asia, the USA, Canada and the wider LATAC region.
The King’s Award recognises the dedication, expertise and hard work of Butterfly Poultry’s international trade team, which has played a key role in developing the company’s export business and building long-standing relationships with customers and suppliers across international markets.
Operating across both chilled and frozen markets, Butterfly Poultry utilises road and sea freight to provide a comprehensive international trading service. Its experienced team manages every stage of the export process, from sourcing and negotiating competitive prices for high-quality products through to export documentation, compliance, certification and customs requirements.
As a specialist trader, Butterfly Poultry considers itself an extension of both its customers’ procurement teams and its suppliers’ sales teams. Its account managers work closely with customers to provide market insight, reliable sourcing and tailored support, helping to simplify purchasing decisions and strengthen supply chain confidence.
This partnership-led approach has helped establish Butterfly Poultry as a trusted name within the international meat trading industry.
The head office is based in Newark, but the company also has offices in Canada, Denmark, the Philippines and the United States, enabling it to support customers and suppliers across multiple international markets.
Commenting on the achievement, Managing Director David Snodgrass said:
“Receiving the King’s Award for Enterprise is a tremendous honour and a very proud milestone for Butterfly Poultry. This recognition is a testament to the commitment of our entire team and the strong relationships we have built with customers and suppliers across international markets.
“Our international trade business has been built through strategic thinking, resilience and adaptability, but above all through the hard work of a dedicated team. Our growth in overseas markets hasn’t happened overnight, and this award recognises the collective effort that has gone into building the business.
“We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved so far and are excited about the opportunities ahead as we continue to develop our international markets and strengthen our position as a trusted global trading partner.”
The King’s Awards for Enterprise are among the UK’s most prestigious business awards, recognising outstanding achievement across areas including International Trade, Innovation, Sustainability and Promoting Opportunity. Established in 1965 as the Queen’s Award to Industry, the awards are the UK’s highest official awards programme for business and are often described as the equivalent of a knighthood for a business.
In 2026, just 185 organisations across the UK received a King’s Award for Enterprise, highlighting the significance of the achievement. Butterfly Poultry is also proud to be one of just 200 Nottinghamshire businesses to have received a King’s Award since the awards began, formerly known as the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise.
