McWhinney's Sausages Limited

McWhinney's Sausages is a traditional family run business spanning six generations. Today Kevin McWhinney takes pride in producing quality Irish pork sausages with the same care and attention first adopted by his great great grandfather way back in 1898. Due to the quality and demand for the sausages over the last six generations, the recipes for McWhinneys quality Irish pork sausages have become a closely guarded family secret.

In 1968 Ken McWhinney, the fourth generation, branched away from his father and uncle and opened his own shop in Co Down which quickly became part of the local community and enjoyed great success over the years. A young Kevin was only seven when he started linking sausages in the shop and by the tender age of just 15 he had learnt all the skills of butchery. When Kevin (Current MD), left school in 1982 it was clear that he was going to join his father in the family butchery.

The business grew steadily over the next ten years until 1993 when it was clear the current business model had outgrown its premises. It was then Ken made the decision to purchase a 17000sq. ft factory in Bangor Northern Ireland. This was the next chapter in McWhinney's story however Ken did not have the opportunity to see his dream come to light as he died on the 5th September 1993 at the age of 54. Ken died doing what he loved most - flying his planes. He had attended a number of air shows on the weekend of his death where he performed stunts. It was while taking off to return home that he took a heart attack and crashed his plane and tragically lost his life, leaving Kevin in charge of the business.

Kevin McWhinney is proud of his family and the history of McWhinney's. Kevin was determined to fulfil his father's dream of providing the catering industry with high pork content sausages, firmly believing that quality always wins and is remembered long after price is forgotten. So in August 1994, Kevin McWhinney moved his secret recipes and his staff into the new factory and continues to produce his delicious Irish pork sausages there. It is still very much a family business to this day with family taking up various roles throughout the business.

Thanks to continued investment in the sophisticated plant, McWhinney's can produce millions of premium Irish pork sausages every month without compromising on the 19th century family heritage. With customers coming back time and time again for the quality and taste, why not upgrade to McWhinneys Irish Pork sausages today?
