ACS&T EXPANDS ITS 30-PALLET REFRIGERATED TRAILER FLEET

ACS&T Lorry2Food logistics specialist ACS&T has extended its fleet of 30-pallet refrigerated trailers to 18, following successful trials.
The company has invested in 15 more new 30-pallet trailers, after service development trials for customer and frozen food manufacturer McCain proved highly successful.

All the trailers are built to the new 15.65m length as part of an ongoing nationwide research project by the Department for Transport into the economic and environmental benefits of longer semi-trailers.

Initially, ACS&T purchased three such trailers two years ago to help McCain develop its distribution channels, and help reduce its carbon emissions and miles travelled per journey.
ACS&T’s addition to its fleet is a reflection of its commitment to investing in this key customer, said Malcolm Johnstone, managing director.

“An exceptional service is at the heart of everything we do at ACS&T. This latest investment not only demonstrates our commitment to customer service, but also our flexibility in developing bespoke solutions designed to meet our customer’s exacting distribution requirements.

“These trailers offer great cost savings – they can carry up to 30 pallets, which is four more than the standard 13.6m trailer. This represents a 15 per cent increase in productivity.”

The new trailers will be based at ACS&T’s Scarborough depot, where mainly they will be used to deliver food products from McCain’s production centre there to key client distribution centres in Hemel Hempstead and Heywood.

They will also provide direct distribution to retail distribution centres, as well as more economic movement between production sites.

Colin Jenkinson, associate director customer supply at McCain, said: “We are pleased that ACS&T is helping us achieve our environmental objectives.”

ACS&T’s expertise in multi-temperature food logistics spans over 90 years. Its sophisticated nationwide food storage and distribution network provides ambient, chilled and frozen integrated services to food manufacturers, wholesalers and speciality producers of all sizes.

It is one of the first companies to achieve British Retail Consortium (BRC) certification (storage and distribution) for all its sites, which are in Grimsby, Wolverhampton, Tewkesbury and Scarborough.
End to end supply chain solutions are fulfilled by ACS&T’s nationwide network of multi-temperature vehicles.

ACS&T is a subsidiary of the international group Camellia Plc.
