TECHNICAL CONFERENCE, THURSDAY 4TH MARCH

We first introduced our Technical Conference to the BFFF event portfolio in 2018 and have held two very successful events since then. Due to the impact Covid-19 continues to have on live events we took the decision to move our third Technical Conference online to ensure we can deliver our topical and informative programme to members without any further delay.

We are delighted to have Helen White, a Special Advisor on Household Food Waste for WRAP, join us on the day as we discuss waste and sustainability. Helen works with food retailers, manufacturers and brands to engage citizens in reducing food waste and is WRAP’s spokesperson on household food waste-related matters. Helen works with food retailers, manufacturers and brands to engage citizens in reducing food waste and is WRAP’s spokesperson on household food waste-related matters. With expertise in strategic planning, she has played a key role in defining WRAP’s new approach to citizen food waste prevention and the re-development of Love Food Hate Waste. She provides advice, guidance and insight to Courtauld 2025 signatories and partners based on WRAP’s extensive evidence.

Other topics to be covered on the day include Allergens, Emerging Technologies and Artificial Intelligence. We will bring the day to a close with a speech from Ben Elliot, the UK Government’s Food Surplus and Waste Champion.

CORPORATE SURPLUS RESPONSIBILITY

As we enter the third national lockdown, Company Shop Group is continuing to provide a sustainable and commercial solution for almost all types of surplus stock, and has well-established distribution channels to ensure any surplus stock reaches front-line key workers and people who need the support the most.

Company Shop Group has the agility and flexibility to adapt and handle any surplus stock that can be eaten, used or worn. Through its scale, national infrastructure and technical capabilities, Company Shop can support you to safely and compliantly respond to the stock challenges you may be facing. It also provides full product traceability and brand protection, whilst maintaining the highest standards of food safety.

The Group provides a financial return on what would otherwise costly waste streams, whilst generating maximum social and environmental impact. All stock is redistributed across the Group’s network of Company Shop stores which are open to almost all key workers, or through its social enterprise Community Shop which supports families most in need (which also accepts donations), so the Group can help businesses to help others. To discuss how you can sell or donate your surplus stock, or for specific information on sustainable surplus solutions, speak to the experts on 0800 211 8484 or surplus@companyshopgroup.co.uk

NOMAD FOODS ENTERS INTO EXCLUSIVE NEGOTIATIONS TO ACQUIRE FORTENOVA GROUP’S FROZEN FOOD PORTFOLIO

Nomad Foods Limited (NYSE: NOMD) announced today that it has entered into exclusive negotiations to acquire Fortenova Group’s Frozen Food Business Group (FFBG), which includes Ledo, Frikom and other leading frozen brands.

This prospective transaction is aligned with management’s strategy of complementing strong organic growth in the base business with the acquisition of market leading frozen food brands across Europe.

FFBG has a leading European frozen food portfolio of iconic local brands with strong consumer awareness in Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and several other countries in Southeastern Europe. It is the market leader in these regions where it operates across numerous categories including fish, fruits, vegetables, ready meal, pastry and ice cream.

The acquisition of FFBG would extend Nomad’s portfolio into new and developing European markets while also creating a beachhead for potential future consolidation within Central and Eastern Europe.

These discussions are preliminary and there can be no assurance that a transaction will be completed. The company does not intend to provide further updates unless there is a definitive outcome to the discussions.

OAKLAND INTERNATIONAL APPOINTS DALE FIDDY AS NON-EXEC DIRECTOR

Total supply chain solutions specialist, Oakland International, has appointed Dale Fiddy as their first Non-Exec Director, with a focus on commercial propositions and market opportunities.

Holding senior roles with a number of blue-chip organisations over his 20-year plus supply chain, logistics and chilled food sector career, Dale’s proven track record for developing commercial strategies, most recently at Fowler Welch, will see him support Oakland’s Main Board of Directors, centring his expertise on growing the Oakland business value proposition, and stimulating both interest and opportunities for new organic business growth.

Commenting on his appointment, Shaun Foley Managing Director said: “We are delighted to welcome Dale to Oakland International.

“He brings with him significant insight into the UK logistics market and will play a key role in supporting our continuous growth and expanding business offering.”

A specialist in contract packing, storage, picking, food distribution and a brand development support provider for ambient, chilled and frozen food to the retail, convenience, discount, wholesale and food service markets in the UK, Ireland and via their partner in Spain, Oakland International is working towards becoming the first carbon-neutral business within their sector and is BRC AA accredited and a double Queen’s Award for Enterprise recipient for International Trade and Sustainable Development.

Dale commented: “Oakland is an incredibly innovative multi-temperature food logistics specialist that has an established record for successfully winning and delivering complex logistics solutions for its wide-ranging Customer base.

“Successful leadership teams need a healthy mix of talent, ability and expertise, to develop intelligent strategies that underpin profitable sustainable growth. My appointment adds strength to the considerable experience and skills already assembled around the Oakland Board table, accelerating the process, and building on the significant achievements of the business to date.

“I relish the opportunity of assisting the Board and the wider team in continuing to develop the Oakland business and brand, and to successfully compete for targeted commercial partnerships that will take the company to the next level of its natural evolution.”
