New Year sees team changes for Seven Telematics

New Year sees team changes for Seven Telematics

Vehicle and temperature tracking leader Seven Telematics have marked the start of 2019 with some key changes to their team.

Martin Jane, Sales Director

Martin joined Seven Telematics as a Key Account Manager after establishing himself as a leading figure in the temperature-controlled distribution industry. His previous role in sales was with one of the UK’s leading builders of refrigerated trailers and rigid bodies. With the move of Michael Kane to pastures new, Martin was promoted to the role of Sales Director at Seven Telematics at the start of 2019.

“My main goal right now is to build on the excellent work of the company and to keep driving the business forward. Being new to the sector is helping me to look at things in a different way and take some fresh approaches to hopefully help us to grow. The one area that we’re really focusing on is customer service. We already offer a superb standard of customer service, but we want to build on that. It’s an ongoing focus.  We do a lot of business in Europe and we want to carry on doing so. It’s where we see huge potential for growth. We’re looking at other markets as well.

“I’ve really enjoyed getting to know everyone in the business. Everybody’s very professional and we’re always looking out for each other.  We’ve all got one goal and that is to provide great customer service”.

Steve Strong, Operations Director

Steve Strong brings more than 30 years’ experience in the temperature-controlled transport industry to his new position as Operations Director at Seven Telematics Ltd. Following key roles in the transport refrigeration industry with Carrier Transicold (UK) Ltd, and Carlisle Refrigeration, a Thermo King sales and service agent, he moved into a sales position at Seven Telematics over 12 years ago. Due to expansion and changing requirements within Seven Telematics, Steve was identified as the person to oversee the after sales side of the business and was appointed Operations Manager in April 2017 and in late 2018, recognising his contribution, he was promoted to the role of Operations Director.

“The whole area of telematics is very much an evolving market. It has changed almost beyond recognition within the last five years. With the team we now have in place, I believe that Seven Telematics are perfectly positioned to continue the growth we have experienced recently. Our key strength lies in the fact that the team here fully understands the transport industry, particularly the temperature-controlled aspect of the market.  This, alongside our focus upon continuing to provide the service that our customers require, and endeavouring to exceed their expectations from both a sales and an after sales perspective ensures that we will remain at the forefront of the vehicle and temperature monitoring industry for many years to come”.

3D food printing seminar

3D food printing seminar

Campden BRI is hosting a seminar on the 3D printing of food on Thursday 20 June. Interest in 3D printing of food is increasing. It can be used for the creation of novel structures, which are not possible with conventional technology, personalised nutrition, waste reduction and revalorisation, reduction of new product development times and late customisation.

Any paste-type materials such as meat purees, fruit and vegetable purees, biscuits, cakes, cream, pasta, chocolate and confectionery can be printed. 3D printers work by using software to create 3D shapes and printing ‘slices’ of the shapes one after another.

This 3D food printing seminar will teach delegates about:

  • the nutritional value of 3D printed food
  • 3D printing and consumer perception
  • the application of 3D printing to personalised food categories
  • printable ingredients
  • food safety
    • legal framework
    • shelf-life
    • ingredient issues/limitations

Professor Bryan Hanley, food specialist at the Knowledge Transfer Network, will chair the event.

This seminar will appeal to those who work in food manufacturing, for example in bakery, meat, egg, dairy, confectionery, chocolate and fruit and vegetables, and the food service sector.

Our training team will be happy to help with any enquiry on +44(0)1386 842104 or at training@campdenbri.co.uk.

Charity Ball Returns in Aid of Oakland Foundation

Charity Ball Returns in Aid of Oakland Foundation

Redditch-based food distribution firm Oakland International will host a Charity Ball in aide of the Oakland Foundation children’s charity at the National Motorcycle Museum and Conference Centre, Birmingham on Friday 6th September 2019.

Compere for this dazzling charity event will be radio presenter Dan Kelly, with entertainment provided by Ray Quinn, singer, dancer and actor and finalist on the X Factor, champion of the Champions Dancing On Ice 2014 and now on our TV screens in Hollyoaks, together with tribute 80s cover band, Retro Electro.

Ray Quinn commented: “I’m really looking forward to performing at the Oakland Charity Ball. It’s going to be a fantastic night with fabulous people, raising lots of money for an amazing charity which supports local children!”

Dan Kelly added: “I’m delighted to accept the honour of being the Ball’s compere. Music, entertainment, lots of laughs, good food and good company, it’s going to be an incredible night.”

The latest figures from End Child Poverty (January 2018) show that over 23.5% of children in Redditch and over 15.3% of children in Bromsgrove are currently living in poverty. Oakland International set up the Oakland Foundation six-years ago to try and address this. Today 30% of children living in the UK are living in poverty, or 9 children in a classroom of 30, even though 67% of children in poverty have at least one parent in work.

Oakland Foundation Trustee, Hayley Smith, stated: “The Foundation has to date helped and supported a diverse number of educational and youth projects delivered by schools, youth organisations and community projects. Raising over £8,000 at our inaugural Charity Ball in 2017 we’re delighted Oakland International will be hosting this year’s event.”

Headline sponsors already confirmed include SPAR UK, Lorica Insurance Brokers, Starkey Electrical, Perfect Personnel, Supreme Systems, Calderhead Refrigerated Transport and Oakland International. This black-tie event will be a night to remember with entertainment also provided by local school children from Ipsley RSA Academy’s school choir.

Added Hayley: “Looking ahead our plan is to increase match-funding partnerships and create new opportunities with the council, local businesses and community groups, with the Charity Ball a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and encourage more businesses and individuals to get involved.

“It will be a truly spectacular evening whether you’re looking for a glamorous night out with friends or family, or the perfect event to treat clients or colleagues, the Charity Ball will not disappoint.”

The Oakland Foundation’s primary objective is to support children under the age of 16 and their families through activities and programmes based on education, health and nutrition and sport, irrespective of social background or physical ability.

Single tickets are priced at £95 or £850 for a table of ten, with Early Bird Table Bookings £800 if reserved by 30th April 2019. Enquiries and to book please call: 07964 001705 or email: enquiries@oakland-foundation.com. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the Oakland Foundation children’s charity.

Business development manager appointed at Reed Boardall

Business development manager appointed at Reed Boardall

(L to R): Andrew Baldwin, Stevland Town and Graeme Richardson of Reed Boardall

Yorkshire-based temperature controlled storage and distribution business Reed Boardall has appointed Stevland Town as business development manager.

Since joining Reed Boardall in 2001 in an administrative role, Stevland has progressed through a number of positions including spending eight years as warehouse manager and four years as operations manager.

In his new role, Stevland will work closely with the directors of the group’s cold storage and transport divisions to extend services to existing customers as well as identifying and developing new opportunities with other food processors and retailers throughout the UK.

Marcus Boardall, chief executive, said: “Having spent 18 years with Reed Boardall and risen through the ranks, Stev understands our business inside out and, therefore, he is ideally placed to work across the group, highlighting efficiencies and benefits for both existing and potential customers.

“Stev is a fantastic example of one of our many long serving team who through hard work and talent has built a career with us. This latest promotion is well-deserved recognition of his commitment and we are confident that his knowledge and enthusiasm will enable him to succeed in this role.”

Stevland comments: “Reed Boardall is a fantastic family business. With a long-established team who really care about the service we provide to customers, we’ve been able to continue to grow despite some very tough market conditions. I believe that the integrated cold storage and transport services we provide from a single site offer a unique solution for food companies across the UK who need a reliable and responsive logistics partner, and I’m looking forward to getting the message out there.”

Reed Boardall is one of the largest temperature controlled food distribution businesses in the UK, storing and delivering frozen food from manufacturers across Britain, Europe and further afield to all the UK’s best-known supermarkets.  Operating 24/7, its 170-strong fleet of vehicles moves an average of 12,000 pallets a day and it stores around £100m worth of products on behalf of its customers.  It employs over 750 staff at its single site in Boroughbridge, Yorkshire.

Sweet Success for Lamb Weston with Another Craft Guild of Chefs Product Endorsement

Sweet Success for Lamb Weston with Another Craft Guild of Chefs Product Endorsement

Products from Lamb Weston’s range of Sweet Potato Fries have achieved an above average rating under the Craft Guild of Chefs Product Endorsement Scheme, enabling use of the esteemed ‘Approved Product’ logo.

Lamb Weston’s Sweet Potato Fries and Sweet Potato Shoestring Fries join the Company’s Connoisseur range, already in Lamb Weston’s Product Endorsement camp.

During the product endorsement assessment, one chef said they already used Lamb Weston’s skin on fries ‘as they offer great value and yield’.

Another chef commended the Company as supplying products that add value saying that, ‘vegetarian and vegan food is big at the moment, we need products that can tick a lot of boxes, for example, your crumb is gluten free’.

All three chefs agreed that with regards to sweet potato products, quality is the most important factor as it is easier for operators to charge a premium for them over regular fries, that having different shapes and cut sizes can help to drive additional sales and margin, and that they see sweet potato products as an alternative, upsell to regular fries, as they are on trend.

Andrea Deutschmanek, Lamb Weston’s Country Marketing Manager UK & ROI, says: “We are thrilled to be able to add our Sweet Potato products to the Connoisseur range, all of which have received the Craft Guild of Chefs Product Endorsement accolade.

“Being inventive is part of our customer promise – that’s what they know and love us for.  By carrying out activities such as this with bodies like the Craft Guild of Chefs we get to fully understand our customers’ needs, enabling us to explore further and create products that offer menu solutions for them.”

The sweet potato range is part of Lamb Weston’s vast and exciting range of quality fries and potato products offering a unique mix of sweet potato taste with a savoury coating, to ensure crispness.

In all styles and cuts, sweet potato fries appeal to an ever-expanding audience looking to try something a little different, a little tastier, a little better for you.  Based on global research, their sweet taste and variety of cuts, forms and seasonings makes them a strong alternative to what customers would eat at home.

As an additional side dish on the menu, they offer even more variety and choice, and with even more servings per kg they guarantee customer satisfaction.
